MeetingNotes

1/15/2022

January 15, 2022 EC reunion informal meeting notes
(written by Leslie Wilson)
People present:
Bill Hall, Craig Locke, Jon Saunders, Leslie Wilson

This was a quick meeting considering the 49ers were playing.
Bill shared his experience going on his recent 5 day cruise from Long Beach to Mexico on Princess Cruise Lines.  He said they felt very safe (concerning Covid) since they all had to be vaccinated and show a negative test within 48 hours of leaving.  On the ship, everyone had to wear a mask indoors and staff served the food instead of self-serve at the buffets.  They also had people checking to make sure you washed your hands before going into the buffet.
If this is something people would like to do for a 45th reunion, we thought it would be a good idea to go with a travel agency so they can manage the reservations, etc.  We also felt that we should do another reunion at a location (similar to our 40th) in addition to this.

We would like to continue to have our classmates post any “informal” gatherings on Facebook or on our website so we can stay connected. Along those lines, Leslie invited everyone to come to Dreamin’ Dog Brewery this Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 6:00 P.M. to enjoy great beer and great music by Legal Addiction Band.  (a cover band that is managed by her husband). The address is 2501 West Taron Court, Elk Grove:

We made another zoom mtg. for Sunday, May 1 at 4:00 P.M. to discuss our amazing upcoming get together at Tim Pogson’s house. (Saturday, June 25).  You can find the Zoom details on the FB page.  If you're not on FB, reply to this email and I'll send you the details.

Best,
Jon

EC 40th Reunion Recap - meeting notes (thanks Leslie Wilson)

Reunion recap meeting notes 11/7/2021

People who attended:

Bill Hall, Tim Pogson, Brian Pennebaker, Janis Dingman, Carolyn Chee, Leslie Wilson, Jon Saunders, Craig Locke

Overall

Everyone felt the reunion was a success! Suggestions from classmates for future reunions:

  • Many felt they would’ve liked more time to visit. It was suggested to add a breakfast, picnic, or some kind of gathering the day following the formal evening.

  • Some wanted the evening to go later than 11:00 P.M.

  • Food/bar service could’ve been faster – need 2 bartenders and more staff to serve?

  • We need to have informal gatherings every 6 months, or yearly at least to keep people connected. Tim Pogson already offered his house for our first one Saturday, June 25, 2022. Mark your calendar now!

  • Since this one was such a success, we will have a 45th formal event and expect more classmates to attend, which means we need to find a larger venue (and which could mean more $) Is any classmate a member of Del Paso Country Club or a member of a community that has venues that we may use for a discount or free of charge? (like Del Paso Country Club)

  • It was suggested to find classmates that are willing to make a large monetary donation.

We also need to “tap” into classmates businesses or “ties” and what they are willing to donate (i.e winery, floral, lodging, catering, bands, etc.)

Please email us with any leads or post on FB now instead of waiting 5 more years so we can keep a “file” of this information.

Financials

Janis reported we have $798 after paying all expenses. This will be kept in the bank for future reunions. Janis stated there should be a second person on the account. Leslie volunteered.

Next virtual meeting

We thought it would be a good idea to continue periodic “virtual meetings” to keep our class active and in touch. Mark your calendar to come virtually Sunday, Jan. 16, 2022 at 4:00 PM

In Memoriam

EC 40th Reunion Meeting Notes (thanks Leslie Wilson !!)

Reunion notes August 29, 2021

Attendees: Bill Hall. John Hunt, Carolyn Lee Chee, Leslie Inman Wilson, Constance Murphy, Peggi Minke Jones and Stacey Jones, Brian Pennebaker

Attendees/Finances –

Leslie shared an update Janis Dingman sent her:

There are 81 (yep Carolyn pointed out what a coincidence) classmates and guests that have paid. There are a few payments she is still waiting on.

Program -

Brian has a couple of games in mind that includes an ice breaker and another game. Peggi and Stacey Jones and Leslie Wilson will provide a prize for the games.

Memorial -

John Hunt shared that Tim Pogson and John are working on a special wall to honor our classmates who have passed away.

Decorations -

Leslie showed the lanterns that will be on each table with the El Camino Logo. She will look into buying battery operated lights to go inside.

Favors -

It was suggested that we look into getting engraved glasses as favors and having a “champagne toast” if we have the funds. Shipping is astronomical so if anyone knows of a local company that does engraved glasses at a reasonable price, please e-mail Leslie at linmanmom@yahoo.com.

Stacey formatted a book mark with “What Happened in 1981 Facts”. Leslie or Janis will print them, Leslie can laminate and add a ribbon. These will be at each place setting. Stacey is also working on the nametags with pictures from the yearbook. He is going to use the previous yearbook picture if there is no senior picture.

We need one or two more people (preferably not class of ’81) to help out at the front table. Constance said she would ask her sister.

Next Zoom Meeting - Sunday, October 3, at 4:00 PM PST - email ecclassof81@gmail.com or see FB events for Zoom details.

EC 40th Reunion Meeting Notes (thanks Leslie Wilson !!)

Reunion notes August 1, 2021

Attendees: Jon Saunders, Janis Herald. Bill Hall. Peggi Minke Jones and Stacey Jones, Brian Pennebaker

Attendees/Finances – Janis

Janis reported 70 people have RSVP’d, 64 have paid. Waiting for payment from 6. We are awaiting next payment total from Delta King and will pay it upon receiving this. Janis reported currently we have enough money to pay for the venue and DJ with almost $700 left - thanks to many people who donated more than the ticket cost.

The last day for the $90 price is August 15. Cost will go up to $125 and stay that amount until the final RSVP deadline of Oct. 1.

Missing Persons

Peggy and Stacey Jones have contacted found many on the list and reached out. We do not “count” them as being found unless they respond.

Program

Brian shared ideas on games Icebreakers. One is to hand out a paper with questions for people to complete, then to pick a completed form for an exciting prize. Another, was to have people answer EC “trivia” questions and the one who answers the most correctly, wins prize. He also suggested a possible dance contest!

Decorations

Leslie shared she will print EC designs on vellum paper to be put in large white lanterns for centerpieces for each table. She will also work with Stacey to design and print “bookmarks” with 1981 facts to be put near place settings. She is willing to look into “engraved” drinking glasses if we have more funds.

Other

Stacey volunteered to design the name tags with graduation picture. He will send it to Leslie or Janis to print.

Stacey is ordering 200 green bracelets with “ECHS 40th Reunion” on them that people will receive upon arrival. This way we will be able to make sure we don’t get other people on the Delta King “crashing” our reunion.

Janis will make “meal cards” that people will receive at front table and put at their place setting so Delta King knows what entrée they ordered.

Memorial Table – Tim Pogson and John Hunt volunteered to do this.

Need Help

There were many people who said they were willing to help on the original form. Leslie stated we could use more help in:

1. People to work at the front table checking in (would be nice to have guests or classmates from another year so we don’t have to miss our reunion.

2. Setting up with decorations (2 hours before event start – 4:00)

3. Cleaning up decorations

4. 2 Bouquets of green/white flower arrangement in vases for sign in table and bar.

Next Zoom Meeting - Sunday, August 29 at 4:00 PM PST

Venue

After listening to input, we are “going ahead” with procuring the Delta King as our 40th Reunion Venue! Vicky is sending them questions/clarifications about contract and will be meeting with them to hopefully sign the contract this Wednesday. As soon as we have the signed contract, the tickets and information on how to buy them will be posted on Facebook page and the website.

Thank you to 5 of our alums who graciously “fronted” money for the initial deposit. ($1000). We will open up signups and payment later this week if all goes well.

Ticket prices will be:

As soon as the process opens -July 15   $75

July 16- Aug. 15   $90

Aug. 16-Oct. 1   $125

The final deadline to buy tickets is Oct. 1

There will be an option to donate money for scholarships to help others. If someone requests financial assistance, they will need to pay ½ ($37.50) by July 15. This is only for the alum, not guests. There will be no financial assistance after July 15.

We need at least 40 tickets sold by July 15 to cover half the total fee which is due 90 days before the event.

Food - 3 options:

Roasted Half-Chicken Zatar Rub Marinade, couscous, with a lemon vinaigrette sauce

New York Steak with a roasted shallot deme-glaze and roasted potatoes

Wild Mushroom Risotto (vegetarian option)

Dessert is included with all meals.

DJ -

Tom Sterling from the days of KWOD 106.5. He is professional and is giving us a fantastic price! ($500 with $100 tip)

Contacts -

Peggi Minke/Jones with her husband Stacey have worked on locating people from the “missing classmates” list. They have “found” 14 more classmates! We are asking everyone to check the missing classmates list. Go on the EC website (see link at end of notes) and click on “missing classmates” at the top. If you have contact with someone on the list, give them the website info. and ask them to fill out the contact form.

Online Silent Auction – Peggi and Stacey are exploring the option of organizing an “online silent auction” where classmates can put together a “theme basket” (or gift cards, time – shares, etc) before the reunion where people can bid on the items. Then the “winner” would pick up the item won at the reunion. If you have anything you are willing to donate, send a message through FB or the website.

Program – Brian Pennebaker is willing to put together some ideas. Bill Hall has contacted Coach Dimino and Coach Calcagno to see if they could “make an appearance”.

Other

Stacey Jones graciously offered to buy green wristbands that will say “El Camino 40th Reunion, Oct. 23, 2021 so people can be identified as EC alum so others on the boat will not come into our event.

There will be a check-in table to pick up name tag and food menu choice card. Maybe we can get a couple of people that went to EC but graduated a different year.

Picnic – Ancil Hoffman Park June 27, 11am – a BBQ with hot coals will be supplied if you want to bring something to cook. Bring your own food to BBQ and eat. Or bring a picnic lunch and enjoy.

Next Zoom Meeting – New date for next meeting is Sunday, August 1 at 4:00pm

ECHS 40th Reunion Meeting Notes (thanks Leslie Wilson !!)

April 18, 2021

People in Attendance:

Peggi Stacey Jones, Constance Murphy, Bill Hall, Craig Locke, Victoria Prunty, Leslie Wright, Carolyn Lee Chee  - Lyndon Chee, Leslie Wilson, Brian Pennebaker, Jon Saunders

Thanks to everyone that could join!!

Venues – Craig/Colleen

Craig said Colleen contacted many places. Since Colleen was not at the meeting, Craig said he would reach out to Colleen and ask her for the information of venues. Many venues still aren't booking events yet, so that's the current challenge until they open up.

Vicky suggested asking everyone about which venue they would like. Leslie suggested checking price ranges of venues, then could give everyone a choice out of 2 or 3 that seem reasonable.

Craig reported Gibbons Rec Center would cost approximately: $800-$1000. ($500 for 4 hrs, $50 each hr. after, $150 if have alcohol, $150 insurance. It does not include food or bar service.

Bill Hall said Frank Calcagno and Jim Dimino are on The Dante Club’s board and maybe they could “make an appearance” at the reunion.

Cost per person Survey results (Jon):

Up to $50 – 8

Up to $75 – 18

Up to $100 – 19

Jon suggested we use Up to $75 since covers the majority of the people.

Classmate contacts (Jon):

He has connected with approximately 110 people through website, e-mail, or Facebook.

Peggi (Minke) Jones and her husband, Stacey volunteered to help find “missing people” on the list. They also said they would be willing to look into virtual silent auctions to help raise money before the event. (to assist in paying the deposit, etc.)

Carolyn Lee said she would set up an “e-vite” list.

Program – Brian Pennebaker volunteered to work on a “program” and ideas for the night event. (could include: ice breaker, slide show, 1981 trivia)

Leslie Wright is willing to help with “computer needs”.

Priority: Current Needs

1. Finances – someone to open an account and be willing to manage the money going in and out using a spreadsheet. Should have 2 people and require both people have to sign when writing checks. This is a fairly high priority to have in place soon so accounts/processes can be setup soon. Please let us know if anyone is willing to help with this.

As we get more teams in place we'll be contacting folks that said they would be willing to help so we can setup some teams to cover various areas.

Next meeting is Sunday, May 16. Zoom details to follow. Everyone is invited, we want/need your input and help!!

3/21/2021 - Leslie Inman Wilson - We had a great start at our first EC 40th reunion meeting! We have a small, but mighty crew just beginning to look at venues. We would like to have a "meet and greet" on a Friday and then a dinner/event the next day. We are thinking October would be a good month-it will give us a little more time with the Covid complications and it is before the holidays. Thank you

Jon SaundersJanis Dingman, Bill HallConstance MurphyColleen M YoungbloodCraig Locke and Carolyn Lee for getting the ball rolling!
